SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. Read John 13:34-35. According to this passage, can you love God if you have difficulty loving others? Discuss some of the bigger challenges of the type of people you have trouble showing God’s love to.

2. Read 1 Corinthians 13:7-8. Without God it’s impossible to love this way. How can we better allow God to work in our lives so that we can be able to live out this scripture? Discuss as a group.

3. Read Psalm 127:1. So often we try to take things into our own hands and do what we think is the “right” thing to do in our relationships with others. How can we allow the Lord to “build” our relationships in a more perfect way?

4. Read Malachi 2:13-16. When we try to do things on our own terms, we walk outside of the blessing of God. Discuss a time when you personally did things “your own way” instead of under God’s covering and what the consequences were? How can you do this differently in the future? How have your relationship decisions impacted those around you?

5. Read Luke 22:20. Our covenant relationships are “blood” relationships as defined in the scriptures, they are not disposable. A covenant is different than a contract. Identify the differences and discuss them. What are some ways that you have looked at your relationships more like a contract versus a covenant? How can you change that outlook? What are some practical every day things that you can do to walk out your covenant?

6. Read Colossians 3:14 & 1 John 4:19. How do you “put on love” especially when you don’t feel loved yourself? Is there an easier way to do this? Jesus’ example was the best example to us of how to do this. Discuss how we can master this in our covenant relationships. Give some personal examples of how you can do this.
